Inflation in US Climbs to Two-Year Peak

(MENAFN) The United States experienced its sharpest rise in annual inflation since April 2023, with the rate reaching 4.2% in May, according to official data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Wednesday.

This marks the third straight month of rising inflation, following April 2026’s figure of 3.8%. The upward trend highlights persistent price pressures across the economy.

Within the sub-indexes, energy costs recorded the steepest surge, climbing by 23.5%. Meanwhile, food prices showed a more moderate increase, standing at 3.1%.

On a monthly basis, inflation registered at 0.5% in May, slightly lower than the 0.6% recorded in the previous month.
